Healthcare IT Transition Group (HITTG), which owns HITtransition.com, HIT Transition Weblog, HITSync Digest of Health IT and Flash Point Health IT Seminars, takes the privacy of our users very seriously. The preservation of your privacy is vitally important to our business. Because the information you provide to us helps us improve our media products and increase our circulation, we work hard to earn and keep your trust. In short, we adhere to the following principles to protect your privacy:

  • We will not rent or sell your personally identifiable information to third parties for marketing purposes;
  • We will not share your contact information with another user without your consent;
  • Any personally identifiable information or other sensitive information that you provide will be secured with the same standard protocols and technology that we use to secure our own sensitive business information and transactions.

Notice of any change that materially affects ways in which your information may be used or shared will be posted in updates to our Privacy Policy. If you continue to use our website and services after notice of changes have been sent to you or published on our site, you automatically provide your consent to the changed practices.

Subscriptions
In order to subscribe to HITSync and/or other publications or notification lists, you must give us certain information. You may be required to provide some or all of the following contact information: email address, country, ZIP/postal code, your title, type of organization, the industry you represent, and your involvement in the purchase if IT products and services. This list of requirements may change from time to time; any such changes are incorporated into this agreement by reference. By submitting this data, you agree to these terms.

Profile Information
Once a subscriber, you may provide additional information on your Profile page, including your name, the name of your organization, your telephone, address, and other information. Providing additional information beyond what is required for subscription is entirely optional, but enables us to better plan our publications and tailor content to our users.

Online Purchases
If you make a purchase from HITTG you may have to provide additional information, such as your street address, telephone number, and other contact information, in order for our fulfillment process to assure that you receive your purchase. If you use your credit card with us, rest assured that HITTG does not store or in any way share your credit card information except through the secure credit card processing system. If you purchase with a credit card by phone, fax or mail, your card information is destroyed immediately after processing is completed. If you purchase through our online system, your credit card information is not stored by our ecommerce system. After a purchase has been processed, we no longer have access to your creit card information.

Cookies & Log Files
Like most web sites, HITtransition.com may occasionally use cookies and log files to track site usage. A cookie is a tiny data file which resides on your computer which allows web sites you visit to recognize you as a user when you return to the site using the same computer and web browser. Unfortunately, if your browser settings do not allow cookies, you might not be able to use some features of our website. Like the information you enter when you subscribe or on your Profile page, cookie and log file data is used to customize your experience on the web site and to provide us with aggregate usage information which helps us improve the site.

Due to the communications standards on the Internet, when you visit our web site we automatically receive the URL of the site from which you came and the site to which you are going when you leave our site. We also receive the Internet protocol (IP) address of your computer (or the proxy server you use to access the World Wide Web), your computer operating system and type of web browser you are using, as well as the name of your ISP. This information is used to analyze trends to help us improve our service. There is generally no reason that the connection between your IP address and your personally identifiable information would need to be shared with third-parties without your permission or except when required by law.

Advertising
Some of our pages carry advertising links, which are served to our pages by Google AdSense. Any information, such as IP address, which is collected by that service is outside the scope of this policy. If you have questions about Google AdSense’ Privacy Policy, please visit https://www.google.com/adsense/.

Children
Children are not eligible to use our web site or services and we ask that minors (under the age of 18) do not submit any personal information to us or use the services. We do not knowingly send communications of any kind to persons under the age of 18, and are grateful to parents for informing us if this should inadvertently occur. Parents may contact us at this email address to request that children’s email addresses be placed on our Do Not Send list, which we use to prevent the sending of subscription invitations and some other types of communication.

Information Use

We use the personally identifiable information you choose to provide on this site to deliver products and services to you, and may from time to time be used to offer you additional products or services; however, we value your time and trust, and we promise to strictly limit contacting you for promotional purposes. Other information, that does not personally identify you as an individual, is collected from our web site and publications (such as, by way of example, patterns of utilization) and is exclusively owned by Healthcare IT Transition Group. This information can be utilized by us in such manner as we, in our sole discretion, deem appropriate. As there is no threat to your privacy from the distribution of such de-identified information, we may freely use it for commercial purposes.

HITtransition.com Communications
We will communicate with you through email and notices posted on this website. Emails include but are not limited to messages which you will receive to confirm your subscription, acknowledge the completion of the confirmation process, assist you in using our services, respond to your inquiries and comments, assist you in updating your information, and/or assist you in unsubscribing. Should you ever decide you wish to stop receiving publications to which you have subscribed or for which you have received a subscription invitation, visit this link to place your email address on our master “Do Not Send” list.

Customized Content
Information you provide when you subscribe or on your Profile page may also be used to customize your experience of our web site or publications.

Information Sharing

Sharing Information With Third Parties
Let us stress again that Healthcare IT Transition Group, which owns HITtransition.com, HIT Transition Weblog and HITSync eMagazine, takes the privacy of our users very seriously. We will never sell or rent your personally identifiable information to any third parties for marketing purposes. We will share your personally identifiable information with third parties only to carry out your instructions and to provide services specifically requested by you. For instance, on your request, we will use a credit card processing company to bill for fees charged for some white papers and other services.

By design, our web site and publications do not offer any mechanism by which your email address or other identifiable information could possibly be shared with public internet users, EXCEPT in the event that you choose to forward an email message from us to another person. Unless you are part of an email discussion group involved in a specific activity of our company in the course of our consulting and standards development work, we send all email publications blind; that is, others receiving the message will not see your email address. However, please remember that if you forward an email message, the recipient will be able to read your email address. We think everyone pretty much understands this, but, in the interest of full disclosure, there you have it. There is only one other event in which your email address and/or personal information would be shared with public internet users, and that is if you ask us to “bulk subscribe” a list of email addresses which you provide. In that event, we will send a special notice to the email addresses you provide that the subscription was requested by you.

We may provide aggregated (de-identified) data about the usage of our services to third-parties for such purposes as we deem, in our sole discretion, to be appropriate. We may segment our users by role (i.e. IT managers, vice presidents), industry, geographic location, and/or organization.

Partnering with Other Organizations to Offer Additional Services
HITtransition.com and our publications may occasionally partner with other services to offer you expanded services within the healthcare IT field. For example, we may allow another eMagazine to offer you a free subscription, or we may permit a trusted research organization to contact you regarding a survey related to healthcare information technology. Whenever such additional services are offered it will be your choice to make use of the services or not; in other words, it is up to you to respond to the offer. Should you respond to any offer or request provided by a third party, your relationship with them would be governed by any Terms of Use and/or Privacy Policy as they may offer or require, and not by our Terms of Use and/or Privacy Policy.

Legal Disclaimer
It is possible that we may need to disclose personal information when required by law. We will disclose such information when we have a good-faith belief that it is necessary to comply with a court order, ongoing judicial proceeding, or other legal process served on our company or to exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.

Email Lists

Our email lists are, for the most part, opt-in or double-opt-in lists, requiring that each subscriber confirm each request to be included on the emailing list. Healthcare IT Transition Group works with others in the healthcare industry to reach new customers by partnering in occasional promotions which may result in HITTG emailing an addressee who has not explicitly opted in to an HITTG list, but who has given our partner permission to send related promotional offers. In such cases, an email message may appear to be unsolicited email (spam), but has been sent within a permissible use agreement. If the message is unwanted, the recipient will in every case be able to be removed from future mailings by following easy instructions at the bottom of the message. If the recipient believes that any such message has been received through unauthorized use or abuse, or if the recipient suspects that HITTG reeived the email address imroperly, we strongly encouage them to contact us so that we may investigate and, of course, see to it that the transgression is not repeated. If a partner which represents itself as having a permissible use agreement with the addressee is found to be unable to substantiate the claim, HITTG will remove suspect addressess, block them from future entry, and may take additional action within the partner relationship. Please report suspected abuse at this address.

Accessing and Changing Your Account Information

You can review the personal information you provided to us and make any desired changes to the information, or to the settings for any account you register with us, at any time by logging in to the appropriate account information page and editing the information displayed to you there. You can also close any account you register through our web site. If you close all of your accounts (including all subscriptions) you have with us, we will remove your name and other personally identifiable information from our web-serving databases. We may retain certain data contributed by you if it may be necessary to prevent fraud or future abuse, or for legitimate business purposes, such as analysis of aggregated, non-personally-identifiable data, account recovery, or if required by law. All retained data will continue to be subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy. To request that we close all of your accounts and cancel all of your subscriptions with us, please send email to this address and tell us in English that this is what you want us to do. We will send you an email asking you to confirm this action from the exact email address shown on your accounts and subscriptions in order to prevent others from tampering with your information. Unsubscribing from any particular publication or service does not remove you from our master lists. If you wish to receive opt out of all future communications, please visit our Do Not Send page and submit the email address or addresses you want us to exclude from future use. Should you ever be dissatisfied with our response to your privacy concerns, please contact one or more of our company’s principals, whose full contact information is publicly posted here.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. In the event there are significant changes in the way we treat your personally identifiable information, we will display a notice to that effect on this page. Unless stated otherwise, our current Privacy Policy applies to all information that we have about you and your accounts and subscriptions.
